During his Bachelor’s in Veterinary Science, he distinguished himself by inventing a groundbreaking, cost-effective wheel cart for dogs with hind limb paralysis. This innovation showcased his inventive prowess and garnered him the prestigious first prize at an international clinical case conference, setting the stage for his illustrious career. From the outset, Dr. Nithin’s affinity for animals went beyond traditional boundaries. He exhibited profound compassion for rescuing and safeguarding stray animals, extending his care to encompass creatures ranging from dogs and cats to horses, mules, bullocks, and cows. This broad-spectrum compassion paved the way for his foray into the world of wildlife conservation.

His deep-seated passion for wildlife led him to join a renowned wildlife NGO, where he assumed the role of resident veterinarian. In this capacity, he nurtured and tended to various wild species, including sloth bears, tigers, elephants, and reptiles. His exposure to diverse diagnostic methodologies, including DR radiography, 4D ultrasound, and bronchoscopy, CT scan, and MRI equipped him with an arsenal of life-saving techniques. His hands-on involvement in daring rescues, such as retrieving a sloth bear from a 40-foot well and liberating a leopard from a dry well, underscored his unflinching dedication. His innovative contributions include authoring of designing wheel carts for paralyzed dogs, earning him international recognition. He co-authored impactful papers such as “Non-cardiac Transthoracic Ultrasonography in Sloth Bears” and “Role of Flexible Fibre Optic Bronchoscopy in Tuberculosis Diagnosis.” Dr. Nithin K’s expertise spans from sloth bear behaviour studies to Asian elephant anatomical research.

Dr. Nithin’s conservation journey continued as he partook in vital projects like radio-collaring wild elephants and contributing to migratory bird treatment in Rajasthan. His exceptional contributions drew accolades from various Indian wildlife departments, a testament to his unwavering commitment.

His quest for knowledge and specialization eventually led him to focus on a unique and groundbreaking initiative: managing spinal injuries in snakes using the modified microplate method. This pioneering approach, exclusive in its kind, showcased his surgical skill and innovative mindset.

Transitioning to a global stage, Dr. Nithin’s expertise flourished as he embarked on a role as a surgical educator for spaying and neutering with Worldwide Veterinary Service. Here, he imparted his surgical wisdom to fellow veterinarians, sharing his mastery with the next generation of animal caretakers.

His path culminated in his role at PETA India, where his love for stray animals and dedication to animal welfare indeed found their home. As Manager of Veterinary Services, he not only channeled his passion into impactful campaigns but also extended his reach to international realms. A stint as a consultant veterinarian in Jordan, catering to equines used in PETRA, highlighted his global influence.

Promotion to Veterinary Policy Advisor marked a pivotal juncture in his career, empowering him to steer his expertise toward strategic management, successful rescues, and campaigns with far-reaching consequences. His contributions to assessing elephant management and health issues positioned him as a trailblazer in animal welfare policy.
