Exotics & Avian

We examine and operate exotic pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, tortoises and turtles, birds, etc., and occasionally get invited to treat exciting wild animals like leopards, chameleons, pythons, etc.

Every species have their own unique set of ophthalmic problems which need specific treatment. Birds blessed with long life like parrots develop old-age cataracts which in turn leads to blindness; this can now easily get treated by cataract surgery at The Eye Vet. Trauma is the most common cause of blindness in birds that we see in our practice.

Corneal pathologies like ulcers, lipid deposits are commonly presented in rodents, reptiles, and birds.

Tortoises usually suffer from Vitamin A deficiency which is presented as swollen eyes. And vitamin A supplementation in time usually reverses the problem.

Most of the exotic animal diseases are associated with their housing and food as it is not always possible to recreate their natural habitat at our home, which leads to deficiencies or toxicities leading to health problems.

Whenever we have to operate a bird or a reptile, we request an exotic and avian anesthetist in order to ensure that your beloved pet is safely anesthetized through the surgery by the appropriate specialist.
